Older McGregor homes along Main Street and the surrounding blocks often carry decorative plaster that predates modern drywall. Those ceilings are patched and skimmed rather than scraped so the character stays intact while the surface reads flat.
Post 1990 construction on the west side of McGregor typically carries knockdown or heavy orange peel. Both come off cleanly and finish smooth after a skim coat.
