What a level 5 finish means
Level 5 is the drywall finish standard where the entire surface receives a skim coat of joint compound, not just the seams and fasteners. That layer fills the paper grain and hides the difference between drywall face and taped joint so the ceiling reads as one continuous surface under any light.
The technique is the same one professional painters request under glossy paint or in rooms with strong side lighting.

Finish steps
Prime the existing ceiling to bond the skim coat. Apply the first skim pass with a wide knife and let it cure. Sand smooth, apply a second pass to fill any low spots, sand again, then prime and paint.
